OSHA announces date for Proposed Rule on Hazcom Update

The rule announcement explains the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking will be published in December 2019 with the goal of updating from the 2012 adaptation of the third edition of the GHS to the latest version (version seven). Although the UN plans to publish version 8 sometime this summer. 

Some notable updates in Version 7 of the GHS include revised criteria for flammable gas category, guidance on Section 14 of the Safety Data Sheet as well as an addition of small package label examples for compliance on labeling criteria. 

Currently, over 70 countries have fully implemented some version of the GHS guidelines in their hazard communication programs with many more in process.
